Mineral Specimen #953    Morganite

Alto Ligonha pegmatites, Alto Ligonha District, Zambezia Province, Mozambique

Ex. Ron Boyd Collection

This is the only Morganite crystal from this location I have ever seen. The color is a nice pink with a hint of orange (in real life it is a bit more pink than in the pictures). It appears this crystal grew on bladed Albite since the back side of the crystal has casts of the Albite blades (see the third picture). There are also some small Muscovite crystals on this side of the specimen. The interior is relatively gemmy as seen in the picture of the bottom of the specimen. Other than the break on the bottom of the specimen, there is no appreciable damage to the specimen. Below the surface of the flat termination, the specimen is a bit cloudy with internal fractures. One side is complete and two sides end at the point of attachment. The two corners of the complete side are beveled.
