Mineral Specimen #93    Blue Topaz

Padre Paraiso, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Two Topaz crystals of a pale blue color are joined together at approximately a 30 degree angle. The specimen has good luster. The larger crystal is approximately 1/3 gem grade and is terminated at one end. The smaller crystal is double-terminated. Both crystals show interesting growth patterns on the surfaces. The terminations have some recessed areas; this does not appear to be dissolution because crystal faces are evident. The only imperfection in the specimen is two internal cleavages in the smaller crystal.
