Mineral Specimen #91 Silver and Copper Halfbreed
Copper Falls Mine, Keweenaw County, Michigan, USA
The name, halfbreed, is derived from early American derogatory slang for a person of European and Native American parentage since they were considered part white and part red like the color of the copper/silver specimens from Michigan's Copper Country. The Copper Falls Mine is near Eagle Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula. It was one of the earliest mines to be opened in the Michigan Copper District and primarily worked fissure deposits.
