Mineral Specimen #732 Seam Copper on Basalt
Osceola No. 5, Osceola Mine, Osceola, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA
The Copper on this specimen is in a thin layer where it was deposited in a crack in the host basalt. The copper is a very red color which is probably due to a coating of Cuprite due to oxidation. This contrasts nicely with the black Tenorite. On the other side, there is some bright colored Copper. Collected in the summer of 2009 by Ross Lillie, the current owner of the property. There are noticeable scratches on the Tenorite.
