This Calcite crystal is quite large for the location. The crystal is slightly white with a satiny luster. There have been several quarries in the area which have been mined for limestone by the F. G. Cheney since 1946. This specimen is most likely from the Pease Road West quarry where collecting was allowed for many years and was the only quarry to produce specimens in any quantity. We collected there several times in the 90s before operations were moved across the road where few specimens were found. The quarry was very shallow, only a few feet deep and because of the low risk of injury, collecting was permitted on weekends.

Condition: Good

Flaws: There is some cleavage on the back of the specimen, but the front is in excellent condition.

From the Kirk Valuet collection
