Ex. Roland and Doris Snyder from Quincy Swap, 8/7/02

This Datolite nodule varies in color from off white, to yellow, to slightly orange, to green, to blue green, The colors are present in concentric circles producing a bullseye pattern. The darkest colors are in the middle where there is also native Copper inclusions present. Most of the colors are due to altered Copper although the yellow may indicate the presence of minor impurities of manganese. This mine is noted for Datolites of this color the vast majority of which were found in 1962 from the 48th level south. The polished surface is dull unlike Datolites from other location in the Michigan's copper mining region which is likely due to the altered Copper inclusions. The Snyder collection was very likely the best Datolite collection in private hands. Specimens from the collection were often displayed at local shows in the Detroit area and a very large specimen was recently donated to the Seaman Museum.

Condition: Very Good

Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
