Mineral Specimen #6823    Datolite Nodule

Michigan Mine, Rockland, Ontonagon Co., Michigan

7.9 x 5 x 2.3 cm
3.1 x 2 x 0.9 in

Ex. Roland and Doris Snyder

A very pretty Datolite composed of a number of oval shaped areas divided by dark colored spider webbing. The color of the Datolite is slightly off white with the interiors a pleasant pink color due to micro inclusions of Copper. Despite the label, the mine is in Ontonagon County not Keweenaw. The Snyder collection was very likely the best Datolite collection in private hands. Specimens from the collection were often displayed at local shows in the Detroit area and a very large specimen was recently donated to the Seaman Museum.

Condition: Very Good

Flaws: There is a hairline crack near the middle of the nodule.
