Mineral Specimen #6723 Calcite with Included Malachite on Copper Sulfide (likely Bornite)
Copper Queen Mine, Queen Hill, Bisbee, Cochise Co., Arizona
9.7 x 8 x 5 cm
3.8 x 3.1 x 2 in
Ex. Norm Woods
When I first got this specimen, it was heavily oiled. After this was removed, it became evident why. There is a light coating of a white material whic is primarily in the recesses between the Calcite crystals which does distract from the appearance. The Calcite is colored green by both underlying Malachite and inclusions of Malachite. The Calcite ranges in color from almost white to light green to a dark green which has a hint of blue. The matrix is composed of a heavy copper sulfide which I believe is Bornite due to its streak and the presence of a light iridescence on the saw marks (not visible in the picture because the iridescence is directional).
Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
