Mineral Specimen #6722    Manganite

Caland Pit, Steep Rock Lake, Atikokan area, Rainy River District, Ontario, Canada

5.3 x 4.6 x 1.9 cm
2.1 x 1.8 x 0.7 in

Sold

Ex. George Balogh from David Joyce

Despite the label, and the one from Joyce, Pyrolusite is not found at this location. Indeed, this is a very nice specimen of Manganite very similar in appearance to another specimen posted on mindat which has been analyzed (mindat does not list Pyrolusite from the location). The specimen is composed of a multitude of well formed crystals with a high, sparkly, metallic luster and is very nice especially form a specimen from such an obscure location.

Condition: Good

Flaws: Because of the shape and color of the crystals, it is difficult to tell of any are incomplete. Likely, a few are, but not to distract from the appearance of the specimen.
