Mineral Specimen #6402    Barite, minor Calcite

Elk Creek, Meade Co., South Dakota

7.3 x 7.1 x 6.4 cm

A jumbled mass of large, elongated, tapered Barite crystals pointing in various directions. The crystals are a golden light brown In color with a high luster. The crystals which extend outward from the mass are gemmy. One crystal is quite different from the rest with a flat termination. There is a small amount of Calcite on the back and the bottom of the specimen (not pictured). The bottom of the specimen has been sawn which allows the specimen to sit in aesthetically pleasing position. Highly fluorescent, although the color is more a yellow/cream with a hint of blue and without the green coloration seen in the photo.

Condition: Good

Flaws: There is some minor chipping on the crystal with the flattened termination.
