Mineral Specimen #6361 Pyrite Crystals Including Thin Bar Habit and Calcite on Quartz
Middletown lead mines, Middletown, Middlesex Co., Connecticut
7.6 x 6 x 5.6 cm
3 x 2.4 x 2.2 in
1896 or older, Ex. University of Michigan Geology Department from Peter Collier
To be honest, this specimen is pretty beat up, especially the Calcite crystals. However, the specimen is of historical significance being from a set of mines which operated sporadically from mid `1700s until the mid 1880s. Additionally, there is quite a nice, small, bar habit Pyrite crystal present.
Flaws: Many of the Calcite and Quartz crystals are incomplete.
