Mineral Specimen #6236 Rhodochrosite with minor Sphalerite, Galena
Silverton, San Juan Co., Colorado
3.5 x 2.6 x 2.2 cm
Sold
Ex. E. Morales, purchased from Hamel Mining & Minerals, Tucson Show, 1982
A classic specimen of Colorado Rhodochrosite which is a deep, rosy pink color. The color is much richer than usually seen for Rhodochrosite specimens from the area. There are smaller crystals, which are a lighter color, overlaying the larger, underlying, rhombahedral crystals. A few sulfide crystals are also present. A note on the location: the specimen is likely from the American Tunnel Mine which is approximtely 12 miles (19.5 km) from Silverton. It was a common practice in the past to label such specimens as being from Silverton. Specimens from closer to Silverton are quite rare.
Condition: Excellent
Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
