Mineral Specimen #6197    Thenardite, Mirabilite

Soda Lake, Carrizo Plain, San Luis Obispo Co., California

8.1 x 6.6 x 4.4 cm

Sold

Ex. Robert Gannon

Na2SO4 and Na2SO4 ·10H2O

A cluster of gray colored Thenaridite crystals. There has been some alteration to light orange colored Mirabilite which occurs when Thenaridite is exposed to humidity. This is nothing to worry about it being a very slow process. The specimen has been in my basement for the last few years and we are in southern Michigan which is generally a rather humid place. Prior to this, it was in Bob Gannon's house which was located on a lake. Specimens from this location are collected by reaching into the mud below the surface of the lake.

Condition: Good

Flaws: The Thenaridite has partially altered to Mirabilite.
