Mineral Specimen #6034    Fluorite

Sounion area, Lavrion Dist. Mines, Lavrion Dist. (Laurium), Attiki Pref. (Attica), Greece

8.8 x 8.7 x 7.1 cm

Sold

The top of this specimen has a shallow vug which is filled with well formed cubic Fluorite crystals. The edges and corners are sharp and the faces are glassy smooth and have a high luster. The Fluorite is overall transparent, but many of the crystals have an opaque, off white colored phantom in the middle of the interior. There is a very thin layer of purple coloration at the surface. The interior color is a light yellow/beige. The combination of the two colorations give an overall red violet appearance to the Fluorite. The matrix is composed of a gray colored, massive sulfide.

Condition: Good

Flaws: The Fluorite crystals within the vug are in very good to excellent condition. However, there are three crystals which are on the edge of the vug which have slight damage. One has a very small cleave on one of the corners, another has internal cleaves, and the third has cleaves along its edge.
