Mineral Specimen #5467    Fluorite on and within Quartz Pseudomorphs after Calcite Coated with Montromite

Prospectors Delight Mine (Black Knife Mine), Cuchillo Negro Dist., Sierra Cuchillo, Sierra Co., New Mexico

Ex. Wright's Rock Shop

Quite unusual Quartz pseudomorphs after Calcite, it appears the Quartz formed a thin layer over the Calcite which was subsequently dissolved by acidic fluids. This left hollow casts after Calcite many of which are incomplete allowing a view into the interior. Orange/brown colored microcrystals of Mottramite grew upon the surfaces of the cases. Pale green, crudely formed octahedral Fluorite crystals on the surfaces and in the interiors of the casts.

Condition: Good

Flaws: There are a number of broken surfaces on the Quartz pseudomorphs.

10.8 x 7.2 x 6.5 cm
