Mineral Specimen #5455 Fluorite, Calcite, Marcasite, Barite
Pints Quarry, Raymond, Blackhawk Co., Iowa
7 x 5.2 x 3.3 cm
Root beer brown colored Fluorite crystals are found in a vug lined with Calcite crystals. The Fluorite crystals are reminiscent of some of the darker crystals found at Clay Center. Also present are bladed white colored Barite crystals and small Marcasite crystals. Under LW, the Fluorite fluoresces a bright yellow (brighter than in the picture). The location closed in the late 1990s and is now flooded and the collecting is not permitted.
Flaws: The Barite crystals are incomplete; the Fluorite crystal are pristine.
