Mineral Specimen #5416    Hydroxylapatite, Muscovite

Sapo Mine, Ferruginham Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

This specimen consists of crystals of Hydroxylapatite which are rich shades of green ranging from yellow green to green with a hint of blue. Hydroxylapatite is considerable less common than Fluorapatite. Additionally, the crystal habit exhibited on this specimen is quite unusual for Apatite being flattened hexagonal dipyramids with little or no prism faces. In places, these crystals are present in stacks.

Condition: Very Good

Flaws: There are some chips on the edges of a few of the crystals.
