Mineral Specimen #5354    Chalcopyrite Epitaxial Growth on Rubyjack Sphalerite

Tri State District, Galena, Kansas

7 x 4 x 3.1 cm

Sold

Ex. Ken-Ja Enterprises, 1974 or earlier

Well formed, golden colored Chalcopyrite crystals have grown epitaxially on the surface of red colored Rubyjack Sphalerite. The Chalcopyrite crystals have triangular faces and are large for the location. A note on the label: Ken-Ja enterprises consisted of Ken and Jane Shainlien who were very well known dealers from Detroit, Michigan. Ken died suddenly of a heart attach in 1974 and their dealer stock sat in their garage until 1997 when myself and another dealer bought all of their stock. Since then, I have bought several collections from southern Michigan from the time period of the 1950s and 1970s and all of the collections had specimens from Ken-Ja which is how this specimen was acquired.
