Mineral Specimen #5188    Fire and Cherry Opal in Rhyolite

Both Fire Opal and Cherry Opal have filled vugs in a Rhyolite matrix. The Fire Opal exhibits a variety of colors which are most difficult to phtograph because they change due to the angle of viewing. In general, the colors are more vibrant in person and the red tones are more vivid in person. In the middle of the largest fire opal is a core of cherry opal. This is poorly depicted in the photos, where it just looks like a dark hole; the one excpetion is the second picture which still does not show the orange color very well.

Condition: Good

Flaws: There is a thin, hairline crack in the largest fire opal which is much less noticeable than in the close up photos.

4.4 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm
