Mineral Specimen #5183 Clinoptilolite, Quartz Pseudomorph after Anhydrite, Scepter Quartz, Calcite, Celandonite
Planalto, Alto Uruguai region, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
6.1 x 3.7 x 2.6 cm
2.4 x 1.5 x 1 in
Ex. Steve Pullman purchased from Luiz Menezes in 1990 at Tucson
Here is an extremely interesting specimen. The underlying matrix is a plate of light gray colored Chalcedony. Quartz/Chalcedony has pseudomorphed after Anhydrite crystals which have a habit described as " fishtail ". Primary Quartz crystals have also formed. Of note, there is a scepter Quartz crystal on which the shaft has a zig zag habit. Small, rounded, Calcite crystals are scattered across the specimen. Small orange colored Clinoptilite crystals are found in several places on the specimen. Although, this species is not listed on mindat for the location, since the specimen was from Luiz Menezes, he most likely analyzed the specimen. He was extremely good at spotting oddities and then doing analysis work which head to the discovery of several new species. Also present, are small spheres of blue/green Celandonite some of which are included in the Chalcedony matrix.
Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
