Mineral Specimen #5141 Pyrite on Slate
Sommerville, Surgarcreek Twp., Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania
The surface of this specimen is covered with golden colored Pyrite crystals with a curved, striated, cubic habit. The matrix is black shale and there are a number of casts after now missing Pyrite crystals. The specimen is from a very obscure location in area in western Pennsylvania where there were a number of iron mines in the 1800s.
Condition: Fairly Good
Flaws: About half of the crystals are missing or incomplete.
