Mineral Specimen #5135    Marcasite

Rensselaer Quarry, Pleasant Ridge, Jasper Co., Indiana

1967 or older, Ex. Steve Pullman

The surface of this specimen is covered with Marcasite crystals which have submetallic and a greasy greenish tint. The crystals thin and platy with curved and striated surfaces.

Condition: Good

Flaws: There has been some deterioration typical for Marcasite, but not much considering the age of the specimen. The specimen should keep for many years, in fact, I have kept this specimen for a years befire posting it to see how it would hold up. There are some cracks in the limestone matrix, but the specimen is sturdy. Small crumbs do come detached with handling.

7.3 x 4.3 x 2.4 cm
