Mineral Specimen #5095    Ettringite

N'Chwaning II Mine, Kuruman, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

Ca6Al2(SO4)3(OH)12·26H2O

A piece of massive Ettringite which has the typical yellow color but also in places has an unusual tangerine orange color. The surface is covered with very small micro crystals which sparkle if exposed to a strong light source (as I write this description, the specimen is setting in a patch of sunlight and the effect is quite noticeable). On two corners of the specimen, there are attached pieces of an unidentified reddish material. The orange coloration is strongest at this end of the specimen .

Condition: Good

Flaws: Essentially massive material.

4.5 x 4.2 x 3.9 cm
