Mineral Specimen #4911 Siderite on Calcite and Quartz
Cirotan mine, Cikotok Gold Dist., Banten Prov., Java, Indonesia
8.7 x 8 x 4.7 cm
Sold
Light olive green colored Siderite crystals completely cover rhombahedral Calcite crystals and Quartz crystals. The Siderite crystals have a good, sparkly luster. Although this is a very large, producing Gold mine, specimens are very seldom available (none have been posted on mindat). I have heard the miners are subject to losing their jobs if caught removing specimens.
Condition: Good
Flaws: One of the Quartz crystals at the corner of the largest, topmost Calcite crystals is missing. There are two places where the layer of Siderite crystals is missing.
