This specimen contains a very large, crudely formed Garnet crystal along with black colored Biotite crystals. There are also two other, unidentified minerals in association. One of these is a blue colored material which resembles Cordierite (Iolite) and the other is a dark gray/tan material in fan like layers with a partially fibrous habit which resembles Cummingtonite. Sorry I cannot be more exact, the specimen came from a Brazilian wholesaler and was in a barrel with other specimens from Minas Gerais. The wholesaler did not what the other species were nor the exact location. I thought it was interesting and by far the largest Garnet I had ever seen from Brazil. The specimen is metaphoric in origin.

Condition: Fairly Good

Flaws: The Garnet is much fracrtured.
