Mineral Specimen #481 Andradite Garnet variety Melanite
Sokolovskoe Iron Mine, Kostanay Province, Kazakhstan
This is a large specimen of black Andradite Garnet. Melanite is the term used when Andradite is totally black. The color is due to the presence of Titanium. This specimen is very lustrous and with so many crystal faces, sparkles nicely. The larger crystals measure 5 mm on an edge. The specimen is in good condition with some slight damage.
