Mineral Specimen #4816    Copper Crystals

Central Mine, Keweenaw Co., Michigan

Well formed Copper crystals with a rich, red patina which likely a layer of Cuprite. Although Copper specimens from the area have been found with a similar, natural patina, it is likely, the patina on this specimen is from a cleaning process and the specimen was found relatively recently since collecting is still permitted at times on the poor rock dumps of the mine. Purchased on my recent trip to the Keweenaw (a side benefit of taking my daughter back to college).

Condition: Very Good

Flaws: There are a few, very small areas where the patina is worn off and the bright copper color underneath is visible.

4.4 x 2.5 x 1.7 cm
