Mineral Specimen #4780    Chalcopyrite Crystals on Sphalerite Crystals

2nd Sovetskii Mine (Vtoroi Sovietskiy Mine), Dal'negorsk , Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia

Chalcopyrite crystals with a rounded aspect due to small, stepped growth habit on black Sphalerite crystals. The Chalcopyrite crystals are golden color with a slight, subtle iridescence with areas of light blue/green and light golden/red. Both the Chalcopyrite and the Sphalerite have a good luster, especially the Sphalerite. In the middle of the specimen, there is a hole amongst the Sphalerite crystals which one can see through (see the fourth and last pictures). This is a very attractive specimen and has been nicely mounted with hot glue on an acrylic base.
