Mineral Specimen #4606    Petalite

Minas Gerais, Brazil

Ex. Steve Pullman, Ex. California Academy of Sciences, Donated in 1975 by M. S. Gensberg

A massive piece of Petalite which is semi transparent with small areas which are completely transparent. The surfaces appear to be composed of a number of cleavage faces many of which are very smooth and have a high glassy luster (it is possible some of these faces are crystal faces). The Petalite is white to colorless with some staining due to iron oxides.

Condition: Fairly Good

Flaws: Essentally cleaved, crystalline material.
