Mineral Specimen #4576    Pyrite, Bladed and Specular Hematite

Rio Marina, Elba Island, Livorno Province, Tuscany, Italy

The Pyrite on this specimen has a super bright metallic luster - so much so, that some of the faces show reflected light in the photos which is colored blue from the sky outside of a window from where the pictures were taken and a skin tone which is a reflection from my hands whilst holding the camera. The Pyrite crystals are embedded in finely bladed, black colored Hematite crystals which have a high, silvery, metallic luster on their sides. These crystals phase into a more specular habit on the bottom. Please note: the Hematite on the bottom of the specimen is flaky with small pieces flaking off when handled.

Condition: Fairly Good

Flaws: Some of the Pyrite crystals at the top of the specimens are damaged.

9.4 x 5.5 x 4.8 cm
The largest Pyrite crystal is 1.9 cm across at the largest dimension.
