Mineral Specimen #4536 Diploid Pyrite Crystals
Duff Quarry, Huntsville, Logan Co., Ohio
Collected by J. Medici
A mass of well formed, Diploid habit Pyrite crystals has been exposed by subjecting the specimen to HCl which has etched away the surrounding limestone. This has left the limestone with a sculpted appearance. The Pyrite crystals have a high metallic luster. Some of the smaller crystals exhibit iridescence in colors of pink, green and gold.; however, the itidesence is not that noticeable. The specimen has also been sawed on the bottom and displays nicely.
Flaws: A few small crystals are missing, leaving casts.
6.9 x 7.4 x 4.2 cm
