Mineral Specimen #4516 Fluorite with Included Quartz and Chalcopyrite
Hilton Mine, Scordale, Hilton, Escarpment District, Cumbria, England
Ex. H. R. McBroom, from trade with Eric Otty, 1982
This specimen consists of golden yellow/brown colored cubic crystals of Fluorite with a high, glassy luster. The color varies somewhat and appears to be colored in places with iron oxides. Within most of the crystals, usually near the middle, are white colored, dendritic Quartz inclusions. These inclusions are similar to ones seen in many Fluorite specimens from the Rogerley mine. There are also very small, micro crystals of Chalcopyrite within many of the Fluorite crystals. These are too small to see in the photos and best observed under magnification. The specimen does not fluoresce under UV.
Flaws: There is some minor chipping on the edges of several of the crystals. Also, one of the larger crystals near the corner is cleaved.
8.1 x 7.3 x 4 cm
