Mineral Specimen #44    Kunzite (Spodumene)

Urucum Mine, Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Kunzite is the name used for gemmy pink to pink/violet Spodumene. This specimen is completely clear with great luster. The color is a subtle lilac color until viewed along the c axis, then a richer more violet color is exhibited. These pictures were taken against a black background which better reveals the color. When cut into gemstones, the cut is oriented down the c axis. This specimen is too thin to cut, but is otherwise gem quality.
