Mineral Specimen #4455    Clinozoisite, Quartz, Andradite Garnet

Alamos, Mun. de Alamos, Sonora, Mexico

Ex. Robert Gannon

Bright red colored, acicular, radiating crystals of Clinozoisite which phase into a green/brown color at the ends. What is rather exciting about this specimen is there are a couple of areas where a seam opens up and the crystals lining these areas are terminated - this is uncommon for similar specimens from the location. Apparently, these specimens were mined some time ago, at least 50 years ago. Interestingly, one of the first specimen I bought (actually, my Dad bought for me) was one of these specimens. I was 5 or 6 and we were in a outdoor marketplace in Nogales in Sonora which lies across the border from Arizona south of Tucson. Still have the specimen, too (not actually as nice as this one though).

Condition: Good

Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
