August 2004 Find

The Calcite on this specimen exhibits an unusual twinned habit which in my experience is unique to this location. The crystals near the top of the specimen are transparent and re a light yellow/tan color. The largest exhibit rainbow refractions within. The crystals near the base are more of a yellow color and are opaque. All of the crystals have a high, glassy luster; perhaps a bit more so on the more transparent crystals. Under UV, the yellow crystals exhibit a strong yellow fluorescence.

Condition: Good

Flaws: Some minor bruising on some of the corner/terminations of the crystals.
