Mineral Specimen #4389    Rose Quartz Crystals on Smoky Quartz

Pitorra Mine, Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil

A band of Rose Quartz crystals encircles a single, large Quartz crystal with a light smoky color. The Rose Quartz crystals are centered around the edge between the Smoky Quartz's termination and its sides. At one of the corners, at the base of the termination of the Smoky Quartz crystal, the Rose Quartz crystals are elongated and extend outward 2.4 cm. These crystals have a good pink color. Below them, there is another band of smaller crystals which have an even more vivid and richer color. This band of richer colored crystals extends along the edge of the Smoky Quartz almost to its base. On the opposite side of the Smoky Quartz crystal from the elongated Rose Quartz crystals, there is just a thin layer of Rose Quartz crystals with very little color (see the 5th picture). Both the Rose Quartz and Smoky Quartz have a high, glossy luster.
