Mineral Specimen #434    Blue Fluorite

Blanchard Mine, Bingham, Hansonburg District, Socorro County, New Mexico

The Blanchard Mine is famous for its blue Fluorite. The Fluorite on this specimen contrasts nicely with the white matrix. The matrix is composed of a multitude of micro Quartz crystals covered with a chalky substance. There is also some reddish brown iron bearing material on some of the Fluorite. The Fluorite is in good condition but there is minor damage to some of the crystals. Some of the Fluorite crystals also have small areas of purple in them.
