Mineral Specimen #4219    Twinned Calcite on Colemanite with Ulexite

Boron, Kramer District, Kern Co., California, USA

Collected by Steve Pullman

Ca[B3O4(OH)3]·H2O

The Calcite crystals on this specimen are quite unusual for this location consisting of twinned, hexagonal habit. The Calcite crystals are stacked up in mounds. The Calcite crystals are slightly off white in color with the crystals at the top of the stacked mounds having a dark micro coating on an unidentified material. Below the Calcite are yellowish Colemanite crystals and below then is fibrous white colored Ulexite. The specimen was found in a mine run flat self collected by Steve Pullman. This and one smaller piece which broke from it were the only specimens with the Calcite crystals. The specimen is in very good condition however, the Ulexite matrix is a bit crumbly.
