late 1960s

White botryoidal Calcite encasing blue Celestine. This habit of Calcite from this location is referred to as 'popcorn'. Many years ago, I dissolved the Calcite from a similar specimen using HCl. The Celestine uncovered was composed of very thin bladed, transparent crystals of a dark blue color which were stacked upon each other in a very attractive, skeletal habit. Unfortunately, the specimen was very fragile and broke apart when moved (although a couple of interesting thumbnails were salvaged). The specimen is in very good condition however, the specimen has very likely been acid washed like most similar specimen from the location. This was done to remove a coating of dusty, white material.
