Mineral Specimen #4176    Fluorescent Hyaline Opal with Included Uranium Compounds

Mina el Padre (Mina Esperanza), Mapimi, Durango, Mexico

This is a very unique specimen from a new find from Mexico. One of the Mexican dealers at one of the satellite shows in Denver had literally thousands of these Hyaline specimens. Sadly, only a couple dozen were very attractive and the best were priced quite high. This was the only specimen where the Hyaline had overgrown a spherical spray of another unidentified mineral. The Hyaline is clear and glassy with a bubbly surface with a color which ranges from yellow to lime green in small one area. Under SW UV, the specimen fluoresces a vivid green. More acicular sprays of the unidentified mineral can be seen on the back of the specimen which do not fluoresce. The specimen is in excellent condition with no appreciable damage.
