Mineral Specimen #4100    Unknown Mineral

McDermitt Mine, Opalite District, Humboldt Co., Nevada

6.5 x 3.4 x 4.1 cm

The platy, bright yellow green crystals on this specimen appear to be a Uranium Oxide of some sort. Especialy considering the strong SW UV fluoresence, The specimen was in a box in the Pullman collection with the pictured label. Since Steve was from Nevada and there was a concentration of Nevada specimens in his collection, I presumed, McDermitt referred to the McDermitt mine. However, no uranium bearing minerals are listed for the mine. So, the specimen is a bit of a mystery. Still, it is an attractive specimen and is priced lower than than a similar Uranium bearing mineral specimen would be for its quality. The specimen is in excellent condition
