Mineral Specimen #3440 Bicolor Lepidolite
Aracuai, Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil
10.2 x 6.6 x 0.7 cm
4 x 2.6 x 0.3 in
Two gernerations of Lepidolite with dramatically contrasting colors. Also, the central setion is nearly transparent and the outer purple material is nearly opaque. Both materials are typical mica cleavage planes and have a high lsuter. These specimens have been analysed and both generaltions are Lepidolite although they are often labeled as being composed of Lepidolite around Muscovite (including one post on mindat). This is understandable because the central setion certainly looks like Muscovite. Note: testing was performed by Luiz Menezes.
The specimen is in good condition with no appreciable damage.
