Mineral Specimen #335 Watermelon Tourmaline
Minas Gerais, Brazil
This is a nice section of a Watermelon Tourmaline. This is probably the number one thing I am asked for at mineral shows. Sad to say, I usually do not have any. The center is relatively gemmy, but not good enough to facet. The side pictured has a a high luster. The other side has miniature fractures on the surface. This specimen is from an old collection I recently purchased in my home town and does not appear to be oiled. Usually I see Brazilians at either Denver of Springfield selling material like this which is heavily oiled and the asking "wholesale" price is often $2 per ct ($10 per g) which explains why I do not usually have any in stock.
