Mineral Specimen #3186    Tarnowitzite - Plumboan Aragonite

Tsumeb, Namibia

Tarnowitzite is a rare form of Aragonite which is lead bearing and was originally considered a distinct species. Tsumeb is the premier location for the variety. This specimen consists of a number of elongated crystals which are on off white color. A few of the smaller crystals are transparent. The surfaces of the crystals have a shiny luster. Under UV, the Tarnowitzite fluoresces a creamy color. The specimen is in very good condition with no appreciable damage.
