Mineral Specimen #2922    Datolite

Houghton Co., Michigan

5.1 x 3.2 x 2.5 cm

Sold

A polished Datolite nodule which exhibits both a pink / maroon color and a blue green color. There are numerous small inclusions of native Copper which appear as small dark dots. Other microscopic Copper inclusions cause the pink / maroon color. The blue / green color is caused by oxidized copper. This coloration is subsequent to the formation of the Datolite and is more concentrated along three hairline cracks. The specimen has a very high polish and is in good condition with the 3 hairline cracks.
