Mineral Specimen #27: Rhodochrosite, Quartz

Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Park County, Colorado

This specimen has good points and bad points. There are some nice crystals with good color on this specimen with little to  no damage. In fact, the one on the right side of the specimen is very nice and 8 mm on a side. The problem is the lack of Rhodochrosite in the middle of the specimen. There is also some beige mineral on much of the Quartz which gives the matrix a dingy look (if anyone has an idea what this could be - please email me- it is best seen on the 3rd photo - it does look like Calcite). The back of the specimen has been cut, but it does not lend itself as a base because then the specimen leans forward. I have shown some closeups of the individual crystals. I believe if you cut this specimen down the middle you would end up with two specimens each worth the price on this specimen.

There is also a sprinkling of  small Sulfides.

13 x 8 x 5.5 cm

Price: $250
