Mineral Specimen #2470    Pink Topaz on Quartz

Brumado, Bahia, Brazil

5.5 x 3.6 x 3.2 cm
2.2 x 1.4 x 1.3 in

Pink Topaz crystals are very rare with Brumado being the premier location for them. On this specimen, there are several scattered across the Quartz crystals some of which are double terminated. The most notable Topaz crystal is 6.5 mm long and 1 mm wide. It has a high luster and is gemmy with the two terminations being quite transparent. There are actually two smaller crystals stacked on the surface of this crystal near one of the terminations. Next to this crystal is a second, smaller, gemmy, double terminated pink Topaz crystal as well a transparent double terminated Quartz crystal. There is also a dusting of small dark colored micro crystals of Hematite scattered across the Quartz. Included within the Quartz, in two small areas, is an unidentified bright green colored material. The specimen is in fairly good condition, but there is some damage to the Quartz crystals. The largest Topaz crystal is pristine as well as the smaller Topaz next to it.
