Mineral Specimen #229 Green Tourmaline in Quartz
Mina Santa Rosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil
This specimen consists of a large Quartz crystal with included Tourmaline crystals. The Tourmaline varies in color from a lime green to a teal color with a hint of blue. The largest crystal is 35 x 5 x 3 mm. The half of this crystal at the temination end is gem quality with a very nice color when backlit and its termination is without any damage. There is also another Tourmaline of this length but much thinner deep within the Quartz (not pictured). The Quartz itself appears to have been attached to a Albite matrix. Blades of Albite cover half of the backside of the Quartz at the base of the main Tourmaline crystal. Please note on the pictures: in some of the pictures the Albite and Quartz have a slight pink cast - this is not true to life but a consequence of getting the Tourmalines color correct, which seemed more important.
15 x 8 x 6.8 cm
