Mineral Specimen #228    Pink Tourmaline

Paprok, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan

This specimen has a nice pink color with an interesting thin band of green near the top. This green band is quite vivid if a white background is behind the crystal (actually a more vivid, richer green than in the photos); otherwise, it is hard to see and not at all visible when viewing down the C axis. Likewise, there is a very thin band of blue/dark purple at the very termination which is much more pronounced in the photos than real life and again only visible with a white background. The specimen is quite gemmy from the the green band to the termination. The pink color is also richer in the region from the green band to the termination. The specimen is in good condition with the exception of a chip in the edge of the termination (visible in the closeup photos of the termination).
