Mineral Specimen #223 Iridescent Siderite
Baltimore County, Maryland
It is always nice to see a good mineral specimen from an urban area. This specimen is quite attractive with red, yellow, gold, orange, green. and some blue and a hint of purple. The specimen is much more attractive in real live. Iridiscent specimens are hard to photograph because the iridescence is the most beautiful as the specimen is moved and the play of colors is exhibited. The recently deceased Larry Krause, a mineral dealer from Maryland and real nice guy, used to collect and sell specimens of this material. Since this came from an east coast wholesaler who did a lot of business with Larry, it is quite possible this is a specimen he collected.
